privacy

designed to be private

I consider your privacy to be of utmost importance in building Obscura. I consider your personal data as belonging to you, and that it should stay that way. Obscura has been designed from the ground up to maintain your privacy, and to only use personal data, where necessary, for the features of the app.

I use TelemetryDeck for analytics. I chose this service because it was designed and built by indie developers like me, who share my beliefs in respecting user privacy. Any data sent to TelemetryDesk is anonymous, and not associated with you or your personal data. I really just want to know if the app is working okay, and get some very basic usage info, like which filters are most used or is RAW more popular than JPEG. TelemetryDeck also includes basic device info like the model and OS version. There’s a link to TelemetryDeck’s own privacy policy below.

The only personal data used within the app is accessed with your explicit permission, using the system privacy prompts to do so. This includes data such as photos, location, and microphone access. In most cases, this data never leaves your device, with a few exceptions:

Optionally, your location is used as photo metadata. This happens via the Photos framework, and is never sent to me.

Additionally, if you email us for support from within Obscura, the app will attach diagnostic information to the email. This includes information such as device type, operating system version number, etc.

To be clear, I’m not collecting your personal data, I don’t track you across the internet or across other apps. I don’t want the liability of collecting any personalized data, so I don’t do it.

I hope that you feel comfortable and that your privacy is respected as you use Obscura,

Ben
